Atalantia monophyla, commonly known as Indian Atalantia or Wild lime tree is a tree native to India, Andaman Islands, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Nicobar Islands, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam. It is a small, branched tree that typically grows up to 3-5 meters in height. It has rounded twigs that are slightly hairy at first but become hairless over time, with single, sharp spines. The leaves are bright green on the upper surface and pale with prominent reticulate veins on the lower surface. The fruits are small, globose, and yellowish-green when ripe, measuring 1.5-2 cm in diameter.
Medicinal properties
The fruit yields an oil, which is utilized in the treatment of chronic rheumatism. The root can be used as an antiseptic. The leaf decoction can be used to treat skin problems, cough, asthma, and bronchitis. The root can be used as an antidote to snake bite.
