A tropical evergreen fruit tree growing to  about 12 m tall, with evergreen leaves 10-25 cm long and 5-10 cm broad, primarily grown in South East Asia.  The fruits, which range in hue from deep red to white, are crunchy and juicy and very nourishing. The fruit is consumed raw or used to make jams, jellies, juice, salads, wine, and garnishes. The fruit is abundant in terpenes, alkaloids, and tannins as well as calcium, copper, iron, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sulphur, and zinc. It also contains vitamins C, niacin, riboflavin, and thiamin.   

 

Medicinal properties

The fruit contains a number of important phytochemicals, including arjunolic acid, chalcones, flavones, jamboline, and vescalgin. The pharmacological characteristics of Syzygiumsamarangense include anticancer, antidiabetic, antibacterial, antioxidant, and CNS depressive actions.
