Garcinia gummi-gutta is a small to medium-sized, evergreen tree that is native to Southeast Asia. It is small or medium-sized dioecious, understorey tree, 5 –20 m tall, with a rounded crown and horizontal or drooping branches, Oppositely arranged, stalked leaves that are elliptic to obovate in shape. Flowers that are red or sometimes yellow. Ovoid fruits that are about 5 cm in diameter, ripening from green to yellow or red.
Medicinal properties
It has been used in traditional medicine to treat a variety of conditions, including gastrointestinal issues, ulcers, and diarrhea. The fruit rind is also used as a flavoring agent.
