Annona reticulata is commonly known Bullock heart apple and is best known for its fruit, called custard apple. It is a small deciduous or semi-evergreen tree reaching 8–10m tall with a spreading crown. The leaves are deciduous, alternate, oblong or narrow-lanceolate with visible veins, slender and hairless. The tree grows optimally in tropic conditions, it is also found in subtropical regions.
Medicinal properties
The flesh of Custard apple can be eaten raw or used in desserts. The leaves and the branches can be used for tanning as they contain blue pigments. The fruit contains vitamin C and Vitamin B6. Unripe fruits and the bark are used in folk medicine. Crushed leaves or a paste of the plant are used as a poultice on boils, abscesses and ulcers. Root barks are used to relieve toothache and decoction made from the root is used for fevers. Drink made from the bark are used against diarrhea and worms.
