Elaeocarpus ganitrus is a tree mainly occurring in Nepal, Bihar, Bengal, Assam, Madhya Pradesh and Bombay, and is cultivated as an ornamental tree in various parts of India. It is a medium sized tree whose height ranges from 50–200 feet. The leaves are simple, smooth, and oblong-lanceolate with slightly toothed or irregular edges, ending in a sharp or pointed tip. The flowers are either white or yellow, arranged in dense clusters. The fruits are small, round or oval, violet or blue in colour, which contains a bead called Rudraksha.
Medicinal properties
Rudraksha, is utilized in traditional medicine for treating a wide range of ailments. The plant is employed in the treatment of stress, anxiety, depression, palpitation, nerve pain, epilepsy, migraine, lack of concentration, asthma, hypertension, arthritis, and liver diseases. According to Ayurvedic medicine, wearing Rudraksha beads can relieve strain, insomnia, infertility, rheumatism, and can act as an anti-aging agent. Additionally, the fruit's pulp is used to stimulate appetite and is given in epilepsy and mental illness, while the seed kernel is applied externally for conditions such as smallpox eruptions and other skin-related issues. The Rudraksha beads are also believed to have electrical properties and are considered useful for women suffering from hysteria and coma.
