  1. HISTOPATHOLOGY (Biopsy Request Form)

    The histopathology laboratory is well-equipped with various histochemical stains and immunohistochemistry for tissue diagnosis pertaining to the disciplines of neurosciences and cardiothoracic surgery.

    1. Intraoperative tissue diagnosis

      2. Squash smear preparation and/or cryosections
      Sample: Fresh tissue in a clean container

    2. Immunohistochemistry

      3. Immunohistochemistry is performed by manual staining method using standardized procedure.
      Sample: Paraffin blocks or tissue in formalin

    3. Muscle, nerve and skin biopsies

      4. Sample: Muscle (for enzyme histochemistry and immunohistochemistry)

      • Fresh muscle wrapped in saline moistened gauze to reach the lab within 30 minutes
      • Samples will be received between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
      • The laboratory should be informed 1 day in advance before sending samples

      Nerve: 2.5% glutaraldehyde

      Skin: 2.5% glutaraldehyde

    Samples:

    • Serum samples: 2 ml blood to be sent in vacutainer without any anticoagulant (red capped)

    • Samples should reach the laboratory as soon as possible after collection
    • Samples will be received between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
  4. Autopsy
    • Autopsies will be performed whenever required.
    • Informed consent from the next of kin for the autopsy (including the extent of autopsy) should be obtained.
    • Faculty should be informed after the consent is obtained.
    • For autopsies after working hours the faculty can be contacted through the reception.
