Stent graft for endovascular treatment of thoracic aortic aneurysms. The device seals blood flow to the aneurysm minimizing its risk of rupture by forming a new vascular channel within the aneurysm, with a novel asymmetric design with improved crimpability & fixation.
Endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) is gaining acceptance as an effective alternative to the conventional open surgical repair of aortic aneurysms. The procedure is minimally invasive as it is implanted using a catheter and involves lesser operation time and reduced blood loss. It uses a stent graft to reinforce the wall of aorta and keeps it from rupturing. The stent graft is placed inside the aortic aneurysm with the help of a delivery catheter.
The device aimed for aneurysm repair has two components: (i) a stent to anchor the device firmly in the aorta and provide radial strength, (ii) a fabric graft to provide a blood flow conduit. The target area is the thoracic segment of the aorta without branches. The stent graft is delivered through a delivery system.
