PATIENT CARE

The hospital has 239 beds and serves as tertiary referral center for cardio-vascular, thoracic and neurologic diseases.

Staffed by highly qualified personnel, its departments have up-to-date facilities for diagnosis and treatment including doppler echo-cardiography, cardiac catheterization with digital subtraction angiography, CT scan, MRI facility, interventional radiologic procedures, balloon and laser angioplasty, surgery for intracranial vascular lesions, and open heart surgery for congenital and acquired diseases of the heart.

The recently started comprehensive epilepsy care programme provides precise diagnosis, optimal drug therapy and appropriate counselling to patients with epilepsy. Surgical excision of epileptiform foci is regularly undertaken in intractable cases. All the services are offered free of cost to the poor patients and at subsidised rates to low and middle income groups.

The cardiac and neurologic departments are fully supported in their program by other departments like anesthesiology, biochemistry, blood transfusion, microbiology, pathology and radiology. Apart from the responsibility of patient care services, all departments carry out clinical research on their own.

The medical records system is well-developed, with computerized patient data base and established procedures for microfilming old charts.

The library in the hospital complex and BMT wing has 10200 books and 11720 journals. Advanced data base searches are also available.

A team of Medical Social Workers guides the patients in the hospital.

A Dietary department with modern facilities deals with the dietary requirements of inpatients.

The Administration, Finance, Computer and Security divisions look after day-to-day affairs to ensure smooth functioning of the system.

A Medical illustration department, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, caters to the needs of clinicians and scientists.

The Public Relations Officer is in charge of public health education, house magazines and media relations.
